Did you know that there are about 50 species in the dolphin family?

They range from the killer whale, at around 20 feet and 8,000-10,000 pounds to the Amazonian buffeo at around 4 feet and 66 pounds. Most dolphins are about 6 feet in length and weigh 440 pounds, with the male averaging 4" to 8" longer than the female. The most common species is the bottle nosed dolphin.

Dolphins are predators feeding on live fish. It is estimated that they consume about 66 pound of food per day. Other favorites of the dolphin include squid, shrimp and mollusk.

Dolphins are mammals, warm blooded, and give birth to their young live. They are considered to be among the most intelligent members of the animal kingdom and it has been suggested that the even communicate through use of a sophisticated "language".
