The Polar bear is native to the Arctic region and is the largest land carnivore. An adult male can measure up to 8 feet 6 inches and weigh as much as 1,750 pounds, making him twice the size of a tiger. They are powerful swimmers making them equally efficient hunters on land or in the sea. Their diet consists of seals, walruses, and beluga whales and they are the only member of the bear family that preys on humans as food.

The destruction of its habitat on the Arctic ice by global warming is threatening the survival of this awesome species and many believe it could become extinct within the century.
